Contemporary vanitas that dialogues with the tradition of the Memento Mori, reinterpret­ing its symbolic language in a personal search for time and transformation.
At the center of the composition appears a skull, universal symbol of the transience of existence, on which a moth rests: a presence suspended between metamorphosis, fragility and the permanence of memory. The ivy expands in the pictorial space as a slow and unstoppable force of nature that traverses and reclaims everything.
The ancient mirror, now veiled, no longer returns a defined image and suggests the dissolving of identity over time. The books recall human knowledge and memory, also destined to change.
The inscription “Tempus Edax Rerum” The literal translation of "tempus edax rerum" is “time that devours all things.”
This famous expression is taken from Metamorphoses (Book XV, 234) of the Latin poet Ovid and is used to indicate the unstoppable flow of time that consumes and inexorably destroys every human work and event.

Realized in gouache on panel, the work is presented in a guilloché wooden frame, chosen as an integral part of the piece. The rhythmic treatment of the surface and the contrast between deep black and warm inserts dialogue with the vanitas theme and contribute to the suspended and gathered atmosphere of the whole.
