Description from the seller
The Tape Recorder Museum is refreshing its collection. In the near future, several beautiful devices will become available.
This time it is a beautifully restored AKAI tape deck from the mid-1970s.
The tape deck features, among other things, the following:
- 2 speeds (9.5 and 19 cm/s)
- 3 heads (NAB band control possible)
- Sound-on-Sound capabilities
- adjustable equalizer for the two different speeds
- automatic end-of-tape stop
- the sound is very beautiful, both recording and playback sound like new again!
- including the spacer for 19 cm/s
- this special edition works without the rubber caps for the reel hubs
- instead there are lugs to lock the reel
The following work was carried out to bring the device to this condition:
- new drive belt installed, no whining sound at the end of the tape
- switches cleaned to prevent crackling and buzzing
- all infamous 2SC458 and 2SC871 transistors (8 pieces) have been replaced with new low-noise (2SC1845) units
these old transistors often produce crackling or noisy sound
- rotating and moving parts: old grease removed and re-lubed or oiled
- the unit is calibrated for LPR-35 tape
- the so-called CAM switching are all in order (see the photos)
these are often partly broken, causing PLAY and FORW/REW to jam after a few weeks of use
- the heads and pinch roller are practically in new condition
This is a very solid, beautiful tape recorder that can serve for many more years.
It looks practically like new with only minimal signs of use.
The unit is delivered with Philips Metal Look reels as shown in the photos.
This (used) tape is filled with over 1.5 hours of popular music from the 1990s and was recorded with this recorder.
The best quality recordings are always obtained by using a new tape.
