Description from the seller

Precious and rare parabaik manuscript, Burmese folded book, dating from the 19th century.
Manuscript made on parabaik paper, a thick and durable support traditionally obtained from mulberry bark (or bamboo), folded accordion-style. Supports that display a sumptuous red and gold lacquered relief pattern (ancestral Thaio technique).
The illustrations depict scenes from the Jataka tales, which narrate the Buddha's previous lives, a common theme in these narratives (as in the Mahakapi Jataka), often used by monks as portable teaching tools.
The painting style and the Burmese cursive script visible beneath the images are typical of the late Konbaung period (19th century), an era when these manuscripts became very popular and were commissioned by both the court and wealthy devotees for ritual occasions.
Closed dimensions: 31x10x3.5 cm.
Open dimensions: 31x120 cm.
Very good condition despite its age, drawings and writing in excellent condition.
Shipping will be carried out with specialized materials and insured for the sale value.
