Rated Excellent on Trustpilot.
Reproduction of the Venus de Milo in carved and gilded wood from Italy, measuring 71 × 20 × 20 cm, by an unknown artist, in a late 19th–early 20th century neoclassical style, in good condition with gilding losses.
Description from the seller
Reproduction of the Venus de Milo (after the Aphrodite of Milo, the Hellenistic original preserved in the Musée du Louvre).
The work faithfully reproduces the pose, the drapery tied at the hips and the hairstyle of the classical original, with the torso uncovered and the arms not reconstructed, according to the tradition of reproductions for collections.
The wood, probably linden, shows gilding, today partially lost with localized losses that reveal the underlying support, especially on the back, the flank and the base. The parallelepiped base is characteristic of Italian decorative production from the late 19th - early 20th century, a period when replicas of classical masterpieces were widespread in bourgeois interiors and art galleries.
Artist: Unknown
Measurements: cm 71 x 20 x 20
Era: probably late 19th - early 20th century
Material: carved and gilded wood
Conservation status: widespread losses of gilding, cracks from wood shrinkage visible on the base
Shipping: *the work is shipped only to a European address and with insured shipping*
Certificate: The work accompanied by a provenance certificate prepared by Galleria T22
