Description from the seller
TITLE: MAGNIFICENT AND MONUMENTAL VENEZIAN TRUMEAU IN SHIELDING WOOD – HEIGHT 260 CM
DESCRIPTION:
A masterpiece of elegance and visual impact for exclusive interiors.
Are you looking for a unique piece of furniture capable of capturing the eye and radically transforming the atmosphere of a lounge, a study, or an important library? This extraordinary Trumeau (pull-down desk with raised sideboard) in a double-body is the perfect answer.
Crafted in the mid-20th century by Italian master cabinetmakers in full Venetian Baroque / Louis XV style, the piece bears no signatures or inscriptions, presenting itself as a work of high furniture craftsmanship. With its impressive 260 cm height, it stands as a monumental piece with superb dramatic impact, ideal for enhancing rooms with high ceilings.
Strengths and Details of Excellence:
Splendid Burl Veneer Cladding: The entire external surface is clad in precious burl wood (walnut/olive) arranged in geometric reserves and in a herringbone pattern. The spectacular natural grain creates a warm, vibrant, luxurious play of tones.
Sinuous and Elegant Lines: The furniture features complex contoured and domed craftsmanship visible on both the front and the sides. Nothing is squared; every line follows the sinuous elegance typical of 18th-century splendor.
Coordinated Premium Fabric: The interior of the upper raised section and the base of the main drawers are elegantly lined with a refined pale damask fabric, glossy and perfect for highlighting the contents.
Three Pieces in One (Maximum Functionality):
1 The Lower Body: A spacious bombe chest with 3 large drawers and magnificent bronze handles and leaf-motif fittings.
2 The Central Desk: The fall-down top opens to reveal a splendid hidden compartment (stipo) with 4 burl-wood document drawers and open compartments, perfect as a secretaire or writing nook.
3 The Upper Display: A majestic two-door vitrine with shaped glass panels.
Author’s Crest: The piece is crowned at the top with a lavish carved crest featuring volutes, centrally inset with a small original shaped mirror.
Security: The doors, drawers, and fall-down section are prepared for locking via integrated locks.
Monumental Dimensions:
Maximum height: 260 cm
Maximum width: 130 cm
Depth (closed): 62 cm
Condition:
The furniture is in excellent general vintage condition. It is structurally sound, solid, and ready to be placed in a home. All movable elements (doors, drawers, fall-down desk) slide and function perfectly. It shows only very slight and normal signs of time on the surface, testifying to its history and authenticity from the mid-1900s (note a small, natural-era crack in the paneling of the crest under the upper mirror, which does not affect aesthetics or stability in any way). Clean internal fabric, intact glass and mirrors. The rear photos show the wood’s solidity and health.
TRANSPORT NOTE: To facilitate movement, shifting, and delivery, the piece is divisible into two separate bodies (the base chest and the upper vitrine detach easily).
Shipping / Pickup Info:
Given the monumentality and value of the piece, local pickup in the Milan province is offered exclusively; the buyer is responsible for arranging transport. The seller guarantees maximum availability and cooperation should the buyer prefer to send their own specialist moving company or trusted private courier.
