Description from the seller

Rare authentic Tuareg Takouba sabre from the central Sahara, presented with its original sheath wrapped in red leather and its traditional carrying strap.

The set is distinguished by its straight, double-edged blade of 79 cm, adorned with longitudinal grooves and engraved motifs. The grip is entirely wrapped in dark brown leather and ends with a remarkable stratified conical pommel typical of Tuareg productions from Niger and Mali.

The red leather sheath is richly decorated with stamped geometric motifs, with metal elements and signs of use consistent with its age. The original textile carrying strap is preserved.

The patina overall, manufacturing techniques and materials used suggest production dating from the early 20th century.

Condition
- Complete set: blade, sheath and strap.
- Nice patina of age.
- Surface oxidation on the blade.
- Minor wear and deformation of the leather related to age.
- No aggressive cleaning performed.

Dimensions
Total length: 96 cm

Provenance
