Icon of Greek Orthodox style painted in tempera on a wooden panel from the 19th century.

In the upper part,

In the center: Jesus Christ enthroned, with the right hand raised in the gesture of blessing and the left holding the Gospels open,

On the left: The Virgin Mary (identified by the abbreviated inscription at the top left MP ΘY - Meter Theou, Mother of God),

On the right: Saint John the Baptist turned toward Christ in a posture of prayer and intercession.

In the lower part,

On the left: A holy martyr, who grips a cross between her hands, symbol of martyrdom,

In the center: An important holy bishop-theologian, dressed with a white episcopal omophorion decorated with red crosses and with the hand raised in a blessing,

On the right: A second saintly bishop or theologian of the Eastern tradition, characterized by a long white beard and liturgical vestments, while holding a sacred book.

This is a work of popular sacred art. The features of the faces are marked and expressive, the colors are vivid.

The explanatory and decorative captions that separate the two registers are written in the period’s cursive Greek characters.

There have been restorations.

Measurements: height 29 cm, width 22.5 cm, depth 2 cm.

The photos are an integral part of the description.
