Northern Netherlands – Groningen and Ommelanden
Ducat 1771 – with beautiful original mint lustre
Catalog: CNM 2.20.26 – V.183.4 – PW.8004
Material: Copper
Stunning ducat from 1771, minted for Groningen and the Ommelanden within the Republic of the Seven United Netherlands. The coin displays a gorgeous, sharp relief and possesses a fine, authentic original lustre in its warm copper color. A particularly attractive specimen with a strong visual appeal.
The obverse shows the crowned coat of arms of City and Lands (Stad en Lande), richly executed with elegant Rococo ornamentation – typical for the 18th-century provincial coinage.
The reverse bears the inscription:
“GRON. EN / OMMEL / 1771”
(Groningen and Ommelanden, 1771)
Between the inscription is the mint master’s mark, referring to the responsible mint master of that year.
