Description from the seller
Shipped only within the EU.
Old tubular wrought iron padlock, with original key and ingenious safety mechanism, fully functional.
Authentic piece of traditional blacksmithing, handmade from wrought iron, most likely dating back to the late 19th century (ca. 1880–1890). The padlock has a robust, cylindrical construction, measuring approximately 14 x 4 cm and retains the original patina acquired over time.
The mechanism is special and rarer than ordinary padlocks. Opening is achieved with the help of a special wrought iron key, of the profiled rod type, which directly activates the internal locking elements. After inserting and activating the key, the removable anoul (handle) is released and can be removed from the body of the padlock. The system demonstrates the ingenuity of the blacksmiths of the era and offers a high level of security for the period.
The key is original and handmade, being adapted exclusively to this mechanism. The presence of the original key considerably increases the collector's interest and the value of the piece.
The "KM" marking is visible on the body of the lock, most likely the stamp or workshop mark of the blacksmith who made it. Such markings are found on handmade objects and represent an additional guarantee of authenticity.
Due to the unusual mechanism, the hand-forged construction and the preservation of all original components, this lock is an interesting collector's item for enthusiasts of old ironwork, ethnographic objects, technical antiques and historical locking systems.
Condition: functional, complete, with original key and mechanism in good working order.
