Description from the seller

Regency / William IV Folding Table in Veneered Mahogany with Dark Inlay, Early 19th Century - On Castors

A refined Regency/William IV style folding table from the early 19th century is offered at auction. This piece exemplifies the understated elegance and practicality of British design from that period.

The table is made of high-quality mahogany, with a highly polished flame figure veneer on the folding D-shaped top. The top is adorned with a slim dark perimeter inlay (probably ebony or faux ebony), which runs along the edges of the band and the drawer.

Key Features:

Folding Top: The top folds in half, transforming a smaller gaming/serving table into a larger dining table.

Gate-Leg Mechanism: It features a hinged rear leg (gate-leg type) that opens to provide solid support for the extended top.

Drawer: The band includes a functional drawer with two elegant antique-style drop brass knobs and a matching brass keyhole escutcheon.

Legs: Four splayed, squared legs decorated with dark inlays and capped with original brass casters.

Form: Rounded D-shaped edges.

Condition:

The piece is in good vintage condition with signs of use appropriate for its age (over 200 years).

The top shows some surface scratches and small marks.

There are more specific wear signs, including a pronounced dent and an area of discoloration/veneer wear near the hinged edge.

The brass hinges are functional but show an aged patina and accumulated grime.

The drawer slides well. The casters are intact and functional.

Please carefully review the provided macro photos, which detail the condition and flaws. The table has an authentic patina and has not been heavily restored.

Usage:

Perfect as a gaming table, tea table, small-space dining table, or as an accent piece in a hallway or living room.

Provenance: Italian private collection.
