Description from the seller
Rare PIRELLI Tin Advertising Sign from the 1930s - Metalgraf Milano - Signed by Codognato
Exceptional and authentic vintage promotional sign in lithographed tin produced by the historic Metalgraf D.M. Milano factory, dating from the 1930s (matrix n. 43204).
The sign reproduces the iconic advertising graphic of the “Bimbo in Bici” originally conceived in 1915 by the famous poster artist and illustrator Plinio Codognato (1878-1940) for Pirelli tires. The subject is characterized by the dynamic contrast between the glossy black background and the tricolor details of the child's clothing. In the upper left corner the authentic artist’s signature printed in lithography is clearly visible.
On the lower left edge the valuable historic marks are perfectly legible:
* "METALGRAF D.M. MILANO 43204" (prestigious Milanese manufacture from the early 20th century)
* "Subscription to the Stamp - Milan"
* "7016/1930" with the official authorization from the Milan Police Headquarters dated 10/6/1930 and references to the Public Security laws of the Kingdom of Italy.
A museum piece of Italian industrial design, unmissable for collectors of automobilia, historical cycling, and vintage signs.
* Manufacture: Metalgraf D.M. Milano (original mark on the edge)
* Year of production: About 1930
* Drawing: Plinio Codognato (signed in the upper left)
* Material: Lithographed tin of the era
* Dimensions: 33 cm (Height) x 26 cm (Width)
* Condition: Excellent state of preservation for a tin object of nearly a century. Deep colors, intact graphics and sharp inscriptions. Present are slight and charming signs of aging on the edges that certify its absolute originality.
