Description from the seller
Bayard W 661 – Quartz Transistor Radio Alarm Clock – Space Age Design – France, circa 1977
An authentic Bayard W 661 quartz transistor radio alarm clock, manufactured in France during the late 1970s. Featuring a distinctive wedge-shaped profile, vibrant yellow and ivory colour scheme and minimalist graphic front panels, this model perfectly captures the optimistic Space Age aesthetic that characterised European consumer electronics of the period.
The angular architecture, contrasting colours, large push-button controls and illuminated red tuning indicator create a strong visual identity while maintaining the practicality expected from a quality bedside radio. Luminous hands and hour markers provide excellent night-time readability and further enhance its vintage appeal.
The W 661 combines an independent quartz clock with a transistor radio receiver covering FM, MW (PO) and LW (GO) bands. This technical configuration ensured accurate timekeeping while offering reliable radio performance, reflecting the transition towards quartz technology during the second half of the 1970s.
Interior photographs are included and show the originality of the electronics. The radio retains its original transistor circuitry, original loudspeaker, ferrite antenna system for GO and PO reception, telescopic FM antenna and mechanical push-button selector assembly. These details provide a fascinating insight into French consumer electronics engineering of the era.
The clock has been cleaned and tested. It keeps time correctly, FM reception is good and the volume output is strong. The alarm activates correctly and starts the radio. The buzzer function is present but operates inconsistently.
The case presents very well and does not show cracks or structural damage. Only normal signs of age and use are present.
