AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Set of three finely carved soft stone seals
China, Republic Period (1912–1949)
Largest size: 6 cm x 2.5 cm x 2.5 cm

Set of three soft stone, Shoushan or Shing Chau-type scholar seals, carved in the round on their summits (niu):

Central seal: Representation of a dignitary or scholar (érudit) seated, dressed in traditional wide-sleeved robes and wearing an official’s cap, with a long, neatly trimmed beard. The back of the block preserves the stone’s natural, rounded contour.
Side seals: Surmounted by expressively carved mythological creatures, evocative of the guardian lion (bāxiān or shìzi) or bixie, perched on square prism bases.

Soft stone, carved (type Shoushan or similar), displaying hues ranging from waxy yellow, light olive green to honey-pink with elegant veins and natural inclusions.

Overall condition: Good. Some chips, cracks, and breaks. Minor micro-chips on the angles and edges due to age and handling. Beautiful natural patina of the stone.

Provenance: Kanaka The Collection, Portugal
