Description from the seller
Exceptionally signed copy on the title page by Fulvio Roiter (1926 - 2016), unique and unavailable in a signed edition. 112 pages and 63 full-page color photographs printed as plates, text in Italian by the famous writer Alberto Moravia, and at the end of each chapter detailed captions of the photographs by Fulvio Roiter. Black cloth binding and illustrated dust jacket. In excellent condition.
This book allows us to trace the color photographic work of Fulvio Roiter, who was born and spent his entire youth about 35 kilometers from Venice. Very quickly passionate about photography, he was part of the La Gondola group with Paolo Monti, Gianni Berengo Gardin, and a few others. After the success of Venise à fleur d’eau published in 1954, Fulvio Roiter was entrusted by the same publisher La Guilde du Livre with the mission of photographing Umbria in the snow, and he immediately set off with his camera bag slung over his shoulder, first by train then by bus, and finally was lent a bicycle by a forest ranger. Fulvio Roiter, who became famous, continued his travels around the world with the same talent.
Fulvio Roiter’s photographic work makes him one of the most important Italian photographers of the twentieth century. Naomi Rosenblum, the renowned American photography historian, emphasizes the harmonious synthesis of aesthetic principles and humanist values that Roiter achieves in his work.
- As early as 1959, the illustrious photography critic and historian Giuseppe Turroni described him as a “prodigy” of Italian photography.
- In 1982 Fulvio Roiter joined the collection of Great Photographers directed by Roméo Martinez, who was editor-in-chief of the Swiss photography magazine Camera.
- In 2009, an exhibition and a book-catalogue “Dieci fotografi d’oro” (10 golden photographers) highlighted him alongside Gabriele Basilico, Giovanni Berengo Gardin, Mario Cresci, Mimmo Jodice, Franco Fontana, Guido Guidi, and a few others.
Book from my personal collection, in excellent condition (practically like new), kept with the utmost care. Very effective protected shipping and international tracking guaranteed. In case of multiple purchases, possibility of grouped shipping with reimbursement of excess postage paid via Paypal.
