Description:
For auction: A beautiful and collectible vintage maritime azimuth repeater (azimuth mirror) from the Cold War era, manufactured in the former German Democratic Republic (DDR) by the renowned factory VEB Schiffselektronik Rostock. This precise optical instrument was used on ships for navigation, specifically to determine the exact azimuth and angle of celestial bodies (such as the sun or stars) or coastal features relative to the ship’s compass.
Specifications & Condition:
Manufacturer: VEB Schiffselektronik Rostock (equipped with the original metal nameplate on the instrument).
Origin: DDR / East Germany.
Material: Robust metal frame with the original industrial hammer-finish coating, optical mirror and fine sight mechanism.
Enclosure: Supplied in the original, perfectly fitting wooden transport case with sturdy brass clasp and hinges.
Dimensions (Case): approx. 29 x 13 x 13 cm.
