Byrrh embossed metal advertising plaque designed by the Violet brothers in France, dating to c.1900–1930, with original red ink and preserved patina, dimensions 33 × 75 cm.
Description from the seller
Rare and authentic advertising sign in stamped and embossed steel plate from the famous BYRRH brand — a French aperitif based on red wine and quinine, created by the Violet brothers in Thuir (Perpignan, southern France) at the end of the 19th century. BYRRH was for decades one of France's most popular and advertised aperitifs, which is why its original advertising material is today highly sought after by collectors across Europe.
The BYRRH letters are molded in pronounced three-dimensional relief, with a perimetral frame likewise embossed — an industrial technique characteristic of early 20th century French advertising, considerably rarer than plain flat lithographed signs. This type of manufacture required specialized machinery and was reserved for brands with substantial advertising investment.
Condition:
Original patina intact and unaltered. Natural and uniform oxidation, the result of decades of exposure to exterior or interior bistrot/café environment. Original red paint partially visible beneath the ferrous patina. Slight structural deformation of the plate. Original fixings holes present. Never restored, never treated; total and absolute authenticity.
Approximate dimensions: 33 cm (height) × 75 cm (length)
Material: Stamped steel, original red paint
Era: c. 1900–1930
Origin: France
Technique: Embossed tinplate with three-dimensional raised lettering
Piece ideal for decoration of bistrot, wine cellar, vintage bar or collection of French advertising art. A century of history in a single object.
