Description from the seller

Exceptionally signed and dedication on the title page by Mimmo Jodice (1934 - 2025), unique and unavailable as a signed copy, also unavailable as an unsigned copy. 148 pages and about 100 color photographs full-page in very high printing quality, texts in Italian and English by the writer Vincenzo Consolo, by Giuseppe Voza and Salvatore Russo. Very beautiful navy blue cloth binding with a mounted photograph on the cover and the title stamped in relief in gold on the cover. Illustrated dust jacket. In excellent condition, almost like new.

Archimedes’ land, the Greek savant, is Syracuse in a Sicily that once formed part of what was called Greater Greece, with a part of southern Italy. Mimmo Jodice captures here the natural beauty of the landscapes of a region also known as the home of the gods, as well as the archaeological riches and the Baroque architecture following the numerous earthquakes.

Mimmo Jodice is one of the great Italian photographers of the 20th century and has gained international recognition around the world. A self-taught photographer born in 1934 in Naples, he began his artistic activity in the mid-1960s with visual experimentation and produced studies of cuts and collages of images, then in the 1970s moved toward social critique related to the miserable living conditions of the population of the city of Naples, lively and popular, and in the 1980s toward a silent evocation of the metaphysical landscape and Mediterranean archaeology, with a creative language that reflects on time, light, and the act of seeing itself. Mimo Jodice has presented his work in France on various occasions, notably within the framework of the Rencontres Internationales de la Photographie d'Arles, as well as during a retrospective at the Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris in 2010 which led to the publication of an important catalogue.

In case of multiple purchases, possible grouped shipping with reimbursement of any excess postage paid via PayPal.
