Description from the seller
Captivating Cabinet Snuff Box in Moss Agate and Gilded Metal
Elegant small rectangular box, usable as a snuff box or pillbox, featuring delicate trabé class work. It is composed of polished calcédonite (moss agate) slabs, mounted in a gilded metal frame (likely vermeil, gilded bronze, or gilded brass).
• The Material: Moss agate is distinguished by deep green dendritic inclusions, creating organic patterns reminiscent of forest floors or moss. In transparency shots, one can notice the superb quality of the stone, showing complex branching on a translucent background.
• The Mounting: Discreet hinge at the back and a spherical push-button on the front face. Small incisions inside the metal used for assembly remain visible. A sign of handCraftsmanship.
• The Base: The box rests on four baluster feet finished with coordinated hard stone cabochons (agate), a rare and refined finish.
• Era: Probably 19th century (Neoclassical or Biedermeier style).
• Condition: Good overall state of preservation. There is a patina from use on the metal and a beautiful integrity of the stone slabs (no apparent cracks in the provided photos).
