China, late 19th century, finely hand-carved and stained bone figural chess or puzzle pieces comprising an emperor figure, elephant with standard bearer. and mountec riders, each raised on intricately pierced puzzle-ball pedestal bases. Exceptionally decorative examples displaying strong Canton export influence with remarkable hand-work
throughout.
