This statue comes from northern Nigeria, Sokoto style; it is an archaeological excavation object. Sokoto is the city nearest to the site of discovery of these works. They were produced over a period from 500 BC to 500 AD, i.e. about 1000 years... At the same time, works in similar styles were made near the city of Nok as well as near Katsina. The Nok, Sokoto and Katsina styles are the three best known.
A superb representation of a male figure in a seated position. The expression of the figure is quite peaceful, the stance and the body’s clothing add to this sense of plenitude. The treatment of volumes with a simple and naive appearance is well mastered. The left arm and leg are missing. The rest is in good condition, the penis has been restored. The piece is solid, with no cracks or friable parts. Custom-made solid wood base. See photos for more details. The photos are part of the description. A beautiful ancient work, rare and authentic. Sold with its original thermoluminescence test, QED Laboratory, as well as a certificate of authenticity and a professional invoice.
