Antique wooden frame with gilded finish and mirror dating to 1850–1900, external dimensions 61 cm high by 48 cm wide by 4 cm deep, inner opening 46 by 33 cm, origin France, gold colour, in good condition with minor signs of age and small losses to the outer edge.
Description from the seller
In this auction, an extraordinary antique wooden frame with a gold leaf finish and mirror. The frame is richly decorated in gilded wood. It is a very striking frame of notable size, 61 cm tall! The glass is also in excellent condition, slightly browning as ancient mirrors do. The gold-leaf surface is also in good condition for its age; there are only two small pieces that have been lost over the years, but when hung they are not noticeable. Since it is an authentic and very old piece, we preferred not to touch it and leave it in its original state. Only a few small decorations have historically been reproduced, and thus for its age it is still in good condition. The back has never been touched, it still bears the antique nails slightly rusted. Some parts of the outer edge are missing. Beautiful, suitable for both classical environments and more modern ones to give a retro touch.
