Émaux de Longwy – ashtray / vide-poche in enamelled faience
Beautiful rectangular ashtray or vide-poche from the famous French manufactory Émaux de Longwy, hand-decorated according to the traditional technique of émaux cernés (cloisonné-like enamel on faience).
The underside bears the green factory mark “Décoré à la main – Made in France” as well as the factory codes Décor 5232 and Forme 3056 bis.
Additionally there is a painter's or decorator's designation “94”.
The numbering of form and decor is characteristic of Longwy productions from the 20th century.
The piece features a colorful, hand-applied decoration and is executed in the enamelled technique characteristic of Longwy, for which the manufactory became known worldwide.
The craftsmanship of Longwy goes back to 1798 and is still regarded as an important part of French ceramic heritage.
