Description from the seller
A crown jewel of evolution for your home: Exclusive museum-replica of Eurohippus messelensis
Experience the perhaps most famous fossil in Germany! This detailed relief replica shows the complete skeleton of Eurohippus messelensis (better known as the legendary Messel little horse). The original comes from the world-famous, UNESCO-protected Messel Pit near Darmstadt.
Eurohippus lived about 47 to 48 million years ago in the tropical rainforest of the Middle Eocene and stands right at the beginning of the evolutionary history of our modern horses. In contrast to modern horses, this proto-horse was hardly larger than a fox or small dog, had a typically curved backline, and walked on four-toed forelimbs and three-toed hind limbs through the dense undergrowth.
Features & Quality:
Precise hand craftsmanship: As seen in the product photo (IMG_2485.jpg), this high-quality cast faithfully reproduces the delicate bone structures and the characteristic posture of the little horse.
Authentic oil shale look: The matrix plate accurately imitates the fine, dark Messel shale and captivates with the typically translucent olive-yellow tint that shines nobly in light.
Unique collectible: Each cast is poured individually and hand-colored – you thus receive an individual work of art from Earth's history.
Perfect for: collectors, paleontology enthusiasts, teachers, institutes or as an extraordinary scientific focal point (cabinet of curiosities style) in living or office spaces.
