Description from the seller
Splendid and rare complete Eucharistic set, consisting of a disassemblable liturgical chalice and its original coordinating paten. A unique lot of the highest artistic, collectible, and historical value documented.
Technical and Material Details:
Precious Metal: The upper cup of the chalice (the sub-cup) and the entire circular paten are forged in Solid Silver 800, guaranteed by the official legal hallmark of the era (oval mark stamped on the metal before 1968).
Weight of Solid Silver: 195.25 grams total (weight certified on a precision analytical balance BEL Engineering, referring exclusively to the removable cup and the paten, excluding the base).
Finishes: The interior of the chalice cup and the mirrored surface of the paten feature the magnificent original mirror gilding (gold bath), required by the liturgical norms of the Catholic Church for contact with the Eucharistic species. The stem, the central node, and the foot of the chalice are made of finely silver-plated brass to ensure stability and optimal weight.
Measurements and Structure: The chalice is equipped with a perfectly functioning inner screw pin that allows separating the silver cup from the base for thorough cleaning.
Iconographic Artwork: The object is entirely hand-hassed and chased by Italian silversmiths. On the cup stands the engraving of a refined Lily, Marian symbol of purity but also an inseparable iconographic emblem of Saint Anthony of Padua. The base is decorated with sheaves of wheat (symbol of the Eucharistic bread) and an elegant chased garland with oak leaves, symbol of spiritual strength.
Uniqueness and Documented Provenance: This set is not a mass-produced object, but a unique piece made on commission. Under the foot is the original inscription: "Offre Cia Balloni · A ricordo · Natale 1961 · A Don Guido Beltrame"
Don Guido Beltrame (1918-2002) was a highly important cultural eminence of the Church and the city of Padua. A noted theologian, esteemed priest, and famous historian of sacred art, he dedicated his life to the scientific cataloging and safeguard of Veneto’s artistic heritage, authoring dozens of books and academic catalogs. In 1998 he was awarded the prestigious City Seal of Padua for his immense cultural merits.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition. The structure is solid, the screw threads are flawless. It shows a very light and fascinating natural patina of age that attests to its authenticity and era (65 years of history). It has not been chemically polished to preserve the original state of the silver.
