The collection of Chinese ceramics by Ernest Grandidier constitutes one of the richest ensembles preserved in the West. Formed over more than a century ago, it includes about 6000 pieces, some of which are jewels of Chinese art. It seems that by donating a large part of his collection to the Louvre Museum in 1894, he wished to place himself in the continuity of the principles that animated him throughout his life.
By publishing "The Chinese C ceramic", a fruit of his experience and knowledge, he preceded by a good ten years all other publications, whether by S. W. Bushell, R. L. Hobson, or E. Zimmermann -
