Description from the seller
White marble consecration cross with original gilding – 19th century
Elegant and rare wall-mounted consecration cross, entirely carved in white marble, coming from an important private chapel belonging to an Italian historic residence and dateable to the 19th century.
The work features a refined cross with expanded arms and trilobed terminals, set on a circular marble disk. Among the arms are four radiating sectors carved and embellished with gilding, a decorative element that recalls the symbolism of divine light and gives the whole ensemble a remarkable scenic impact.
This type belongs to the tradition of consecration or dedication crosses, liturgical elements meant to mark and remember the consecration of churches, oratories, and private chapels. In this specimen the purity of the white marble dialogues with the remaining gilding, creating a harmonious and intensely spiritual whole.
Particularly appreciable is the quality of the workmanship, with soft, well-proportioned silhouettes, as well as the delicate natural veins of the stone that make each piece unique. On the back are still the old mounting pegs, testifying to the original placement inside the sacred building from which it comes.
The condition is very good for its age. There are slight signs of wear, small marginal flaws, and natural abrasions of the gilding, elements that attest to its authenticity and historical use without compromising its aesthetic legibility.
Dimensions: 26 × 26 cm. Thickness 1.2 cm. Weight approximately 800 grams.
Our interior designer/architect recommends: an ideal object for sacral art collections, professional studios, libraries, historic residences, and classic interiors where it can be enhanced as an authentic testimony of 19th-century private devotion.
Photos are an integral part of the description. Guaranteed careful packaging entrusted to sector professionals.
