Walking cane with a solid silver 800 head in the shape of a dog, wooden shaft, made in Italy, dating to 1910–1920, in good used condition with minor signs of age and stains.
Description from the seller
Elegant antique walking cane with a silver 800 head-shaped handle, from the late 19th century.
Elegant vintage walking cane dating from the end of the 19th century, a craftsmanship piece that combines functionality with sophisticated design.
This unique lot is characterized by an extraordinary solid silver handle shaped like a dog’s head, depicting a pointer or a hound with remarkably realistic details. Late 19th century (circa 1880–1900), based on style and marks.
A meticulous silver sculpture capturing the attentive expression and the texture of the dog’s fur. The handle also features a decorative collar with a stylized buckle, adding an additional level of detail.
* A clearly defined "800" hallmark, attesting to the silver’s purity.
* A leaf- or shield-shaped hallmark (likely an acanthus leaf or heraldic shield), which could identify the maker or the provenance (probably Italy or Germany).
The shaft is made of wood, with a rich warm brown color and visible grain. The joint between the silver handle and the wooden shaft is reinforced by a slim, clean ferrule.
The silver handle shows signs of use consistent with age, including a natural surface patina that enhances its artistic depth (easily polished at the buyer’s discretion). The wooden shaft shows superficial scratches and minor abrasions from use over time, but remains solid and functional. Overall condition is excellent for an item of this antiquity.
Weight: the weight is calculated for the entire cane.
Careful tracked shipping, carried out with appropriate materials.
