Description from the seller
This set of three hand-carved wooden pastry molds from the Republican era features different shapes and auspicious patterns. They were used to mold traditional festive pastries such as mooncakes, rice cakes, wedding cakes, and New Year's cakes. Each mold is carved from a single piece of hardwood, with deep relief carvings by hand, showcasing a simple yet fluid style and clear, three-dimensional detail. The round and diamond-shaped molds retain their original vermilion red lacquer, which has a warm, aged patina. The rectangular mold retains its original wood color, developing a warm, thick patina over the years.
Natural wear and tear from long-term use has resulted in rounded edges without sharp burrs, no severe cracks, and no large areas of missing material or chipping. The relief carvings remain intact and clearly legible.
