Rated Excellent on Trustpilot.
Cast iron door knocker from France, dating to 1850–1900 in antique Gothic style with a Neo-Gothic hand motif, measuring 14 cm high, 5 cm deep and 5 cm wide, in good used condition with signs of age and some imperfections.
Description from the seller
It is a cast-iron door knocker with all the expressive force of the Gothic style, a piece that could be perfectly placed in the nineteenth century or even earlier, given its archaic shaping and the deep patina left by time. The closed fist — a motif laden with symbolism since the Middle Ages — appears here with a compact, almost sculptural volume, where the fingers are marked with an intentional rigidity, closer to Gothic imagery than to the later naturalistic models.
The iron, aged and darkened, shows that rough and noble surface that only appears on ancient pieces exposed for decades to the elements. The reddish, stable and honest oxidation reinforces the historical reading without compromising the metal’s integrity. The bracelet or vambrace, worked with simple yet firm lines, adds a decorative touch that recalls medieval finishes of doors and chests.
The rear hinge preserves its original, robust and functional form, indicating that the piece has not been excessively manipulated. Its visual and material weight makes it a object of character, typical of the gates of manorial houses, guild workshops, or rural homes with an old tradition.
Overall, it is a door knocker that combines functionality, symbolism, and Gothic aesthetics, an authentic piece that maintains its historic presence intact.
Certified shipping and good packaging.
