Description from the seller

Rare Ball carnet / Pocket notebook in sterling silver - "Reynolds' Angels" - Birmingham 1902

An extraordinary and rare Edwardian-era ballroom carnet (Carnet de Bal), entirely crafted in 925 sterling silver. The front features a superb high-relief repoussé work depicting the famous cherub heads among the clouds, a motif inspired by Sir Joshua Reynolds' painting "Angel Heads." The interior is incredibly well preserved and complete with all original accessories: green moiré silk lining, compartments for cards, a rigid central slate for notes, and its very rare original-era micro-pencil. On the front the Birmingham English silver assay marks are clearly stamped with the date letter "c" for 1902. The hinge and snap closure are perfectly stable and functioning. A museum piece for antique silver collectors.
