Golden Stamp: First Free States Assembly.

In 1572 the First Free States Assembly was also held in Dordrecht. A risky and illegal act. The cities and nobles present there decide to organize themselves to resist the policies of Philip II and his advisers. The assembly also confirms Willem van Oranje's status as stadtholder. This was a political act of resistance aimed at Spanish sovereignty. This decision underscores Willem van Oranje's title as ‘Father of the Fatherland’.

Gouden Postzegel Eerste Vrije Statenvergadering.

In 1572 wordt ook de Eerste Vrije Statenvergadering in Dordrecht gehouden. Een risicovolle en illegale daad. De daar aanwezige steden en edelen besluiten zich te organiseren om zich te verzetten tegen het beleid van Filips II en zijn adviseurs. Ook bekrachtigt de vergadering de status van Willem van Oranje als stadhouder. Dit was een politieke verzetsdaad, gericht tegen de Spaanse soevereiniteit. Deze beslissing onderstreept de titel van Willem van Oranje als ‘Vader des Vaderlands’.
