The mesmerizing black-and-white photos by Sebastião Salgado that make up the Genesis project show landscapes and people spared from the devastating assault of modern society. Taken during an epic 8-year expedition, these photos are divided into 5 chapters, by geographic zones: At the edge of the South, Sanctuaries, Africa, Northern Lands and the Amazon and Pantanal.

Genesis is a large-scale portrait. A portrait of our continents, of the grandeur of landscapes still preserved, not violated. Also a portrait of animal life and vegetation that stretch and rise to breathe the same air as the human communities that respect them.

To see, to marvel, and to understand. Sebastião Salgado shows the necessity of keeping them in memory and finally inspires action to preserve these treasures.

Launched in 2004, the Genesis project concludes in 2012. This body of work has been shown in museums around the world. It has been the subject of numerous articles (Paris Match and Polka Magazine in France, Rolling Stone in the United States, The Guardian in the United Kingdom...) and is compiled in the book Genesis, published by Taschen in 2013.
