Description from the seller
Whole set of traditional baskets from Central Africa (mainly Rwanda and Burundi) made according to the art of Tutsi basketry. These baskets are often called agaseke, ibeseke, or igiseke depending on their shape and use. They are handmade with plant fibers (papyrus, sisal, braided grasses) using a very fine spiral weaving technique. The geometric patterns, notably the zigzags called umurenzi, are characteristic of this craft. Historically, the manufacture of the finest baskets was associated with women of the Tutsi aristocracy, which gave them significant cultural and symbolic value.
height of the largest (without the lid) 7.5 cm, diameter 8.5 cm
height of the smallest (without the lid) 3.3 cm, diameter 4 cm
