Description from the seller
Set of 11 wine glasses + 1 carafe in light, transparent crystal with superior sonority, mouth-blown, characterized by refined workmanship and decorations rich in detail. The bowl, broad and rounded (similar to a balloon or tulip model), features a refined acid-engraved motif (also called guilloché or pantograph) on the upper part. The decorative motif is geometric and floral: it shows a continuous band of dense, parallel zig-zag waves, beneath which festoons or garlands develop that frame small grape bunches or stylized floral elements hanging. Unknown producer. It bore an oval foil adhesive label in gold and silver with the inscription “MADE IN CZECHOSLOVAKIA,” dating from the period between the 1960s and the 1980s (up to 1992), which was removed during washing. This specific type of metallized foil label was applied to Bohemian glass intended for Western export during the Soviet bloc era, particularly under the control of the state foreign-trade company Glassexport (active mainly in the 1960s, ’70s and ’80s). The decorative style recalls the canons of the 60s/70s, periods when motifs of geometric festoons and engraved garlands were extremely popular for tableware sets. A very luxurious service. It could have been a ceremonial service, a wedding gift for an important family, or an exclusive customized line for a grand hotel, a private club, or a noble house. Size: glass height 12.1 cm × diameter 6 cm – carafe height 21.5 cm × diameter.
