Cruet set - Silver, Crystal

This object is a beautiful antique Empire-style oil and vinegar set (also known as a huilier-vinaigrier), made of silver or high-quality silver-plated metal and crystal.
Characteristics of the object
Style and Origin: This type of design is typical of the French Empire and Restoration period (early 19th century, ca. 1810–1840). Many of these French sets carry silver marks such as the well-known Vieillard hallmark (Old Man hallmark).
Design: It features a rectangular, elevated base resting on richly decorated feet. The two openwork holders for the crystal flasks are often adorned with neoclassical reliefs of mythological figures, vestals, or putti.
Central axis: In the middle is a monumental handle with which the set could be passed around at table. At its foot there is a small holder, originally intended to accommodate the glass stoppers when the oil and vinegar were poured.
