Description from the seller

Character dolls with bisque porcelain heads and composition bodies in sailor suits and a lacy dress

The set consists of three charming antique small dolls. Two of them wear color-coordinated, dark blue sailor outfits in the maritime style of the turn of the century (one with a matching cap). The smaller doll in the middle wears a historic white dress with delicate lace trim. All three dolls have finely crafted faces with molded and painted hair as well as hand-painted facial features.

Manufacturer
Large dolls (sailors): Bahr & Pröschild (nick on the back of the head with the brand “Crown over Circle with Cross” and the model number 11203 or “B 9/0”, see photos).
Small doll (white dress): Due to the construction and the neck mark “910” (see photos) also of German manufacture (Gebrüder Heubach or a comparable Thuringian character doll maker).

Origin
Germany (Thuringia) – recognizable by the embossed origin designation “Germany” on the neck (image.png).

Year / Exact period
About 1910 – 1920 (Late German Empire / Early Weimar Republic).

Style
Antique toy / character dolls of Historicism or early modernism (maritime fashion for children).

Technique & Material
Doll in white dress: The head is made of fine bisque porcelain; all body parts (torso and limbs) are entirely made of composition material.
Dolls in blue outfits: The heads are made of bisque porcelain, all body parts are also composition material (painted, see detail photos).
Details & clothing: All heads are hand-painted (eyes, eyebrows, lips and hair). Original or contemporary textiles (wool/cotton for the outfits, lace and fine linen/cotton for the dress).

Dimensions
Doll in white dress: height about 18 cm
Dolls in blue outfits: height about 22 cm

Condition
Overall condition is good to satisfactory for their great age:
Heads: The bisque porcelain shows no obvious hairlines or flaking in the visible area. The original painting is well preserved.
Body & limbs: The bodies made of composition material show age-related wear, light staining, minimal color chipping and the typical loosening of the inner elastic bands over the decades (see detail photos). The arm joints have been partially fixed historically or sit loosely in the sleeves.
Clothing: Authentically aged with nice patina and light dust, without major damage.

Shipping note: The dolls will be packed securely for transport and shipped insured.
