Mask - Bambara - Mali

Large Bambara mask from Mali

Wood, pigments, fabrics, raffia and cowries. Face with small circular eyes in relief, imposing hooked nose, traces of kaolin on the face.
Cascade headdress topped with two antelope horns ending in two figures; masculine and feminine wrapped in old fabrics and also finished with cascade headdresses.
Mid-20th century
Purchased in situ at an art market in Bamenda, Cameroon.
Clear signs of wear and repair on the mouth.
