Description from the seller
Antique Chinese Rose Canton Porcelain Plate; Butterflies; Late 19th Century
This round Chinese porcelain plate is a wonderful and authentic specimen of the so-called Rose-Canton style from the late 19th century, created in the period around 1890 to 1900. In contrast to the classic Rose Medallion, the Rose-Canton decoration largely omits depictions of people and instead concentrates entirely on the splendor of the animal and plant world. The center of the plate features a lush, densely painted floral medallion with large pink peonies, fruits and delicate foliate scrolls, which subtly rise in relief from the glaze through fine craftsmanship.
Particularly impressive is the broad, surrounding border designed and dominated by a multitude of detailed and vividly worked butterflies in bright yellow, orange and green tones. The fine gold rim elegantly frames the dense, colorful decoration. With its classical dimensions of 22.3 x 22.3 x 2 cm, the collectible piece is in a beautiful, age-appropriate condition. The back shows the typical features of antique firing technology with tiny, manufacturing pores in the glaze as well as an unglazed, authentic stand ring. An exquisite decorative and collectible object that perfectly represents the elegance of Canton export porcelain. age-appropriate signs of wear (see photos);
