Based on the famous rock-cut monument in Lucerne, Switzerland, depicting the Dying Lion of Lucerne, designed by Bertel Thorvaldsen and carved between 1820 and 1821. This work commemorates the Swiss Guards killed in 1792 during the French Revolution, when the revolutionaries stormed the Tuileries Palace in Paris.
