Description from the seller
The copper engraving shows the city of Stuttgart from a bird's-eye view as a map. In the upper right corner there is a crowned heraldic cartouche with a ducal Württemberg noble coat of arms. The original depiction with the title 'Die fürstl. Statt Stuétgart' dates from around 1640 and is by Matthäus Merian (1593-1650). Bodenehr took over the city view and replaced the numbered legend at the bottom edge of the sheet with an explanatory text, which is located on both sides.
Gabriel Bodenehr (1664-1758) was a Augsburg-born publisher, cartographer and copper engraver.
Framed, width 38 cm, height 26 cm
