Description from the seller
Dimensions:
Armchair: Height 82 cm | Length 110 cm | Depth 90 cm
Sofa: Height 82 cm | Length 170 cm | Depth 90 cm
This extraordinary set consisting of a sofa and an armchair was born from the collaboration between the legendary French actor Alain Delon and the prestigious Maison Jansen, one of the most renowned Parisian furnishing houses of the twentieth century, with Italian distribution curated by Mario Sabot.
Produced in the early 1970s, these pieces represent one of Delon’s rare incursions into the world of interior design — a natural extension of his charismatic personality and refined aesthetic. An absolute icon of European cinema and a symbol of masculine elegance, Delon transfers into the project the same tension between strength and sensuality that characterizes his cinematic interpretations.
The sofa and armchair, upholstered in the original fabric with a tone-on-tone tobacco-colored geometric pattern, stand out for their enveloping and sculptural form, almost like a wave or a shell, in which every curve is designed to merge comfort and theatricality. The fan-shaped backrest, opening like a scenic drapery, is a clear reference to the cinematic and glamorous dimension of the period, as well as to the idea of refuge intime that permeated Parisian interior design of those years.
Maison Jansen, famous for having furnished royal palaces, presidential residences, and high-society homes between Paris, London, and Buenos Aires, found in Delon an unexpected yet perfectly coherent interpreter of its aesthetic philosophy: uniting classicism, theatricality, and modernity into a single vision.
Distributed in Italy by Mario Sabot, these furnishings were part of a luxury collection that testified to the growing cross-contamination between cinema, fashion, and design. Today the set stands as an absolute rarity, a witness to a moment when movie stars became true curators of style, and furnishings, like garments, participated in the construction of myth.
The pieces are completed by the original metal plaques “AD Alain Delon”, a sign of authenticity and belonging to a limited production.
Additional Notes: Please note that this set is in good vintage condition with no structural damages.
Please note that there are some stains on the inside of the seats, which are therefore not visible from the outside. Slight discoloration of the fabric may also be present, as this is the original upholstery from the 1970s. We kindly ask you to take this into consideration before proceeding with the purchase. Thank you.
