Description from the seller
Extremely rare Schatz & Söhne ‘Sola’ subminiature camera (circa 1937) – With clockwork motor & Schneider-Kreuznach Kinoplan Lens.
For the connoisseur and collector of early subminiature and espionage cameras, we present an absolute rarity: the Schatz & Söhne Sola from around 1937. This ingenious piece of engineering was not designed by a traditional camera manufacturer, but by the renowned German clockmaker Jahresuhrenfabrik Aug. Schatz & Söhne. Thanks to their expertise in timepieces, this camera is equipped with a built-in clockwork motor. With it, 12 successive 13x18 mm exposures could be taken on unperforated 16 mm film. Due to its compact size and the quiet, automatic film transport, copies of this model were used by secret services during World War II.
Specifications:
Manufacturer: Schatz & Söhne (Germany)
Model: Sola subminiature camera
Year of construction: circa 1937
Case: Characteristic heavy, horseshoe-shaped metal body with black covering.
Lens: High-quality Schneider-Kreuznach Kinoplan 1:3 f=2.5 cm.
Viewfinder: Fold-out sports finder and fixed viewfinder.
Condition of the object: Very fine optical condition. Very minimal signs of aging consistent with the photos. The clockwork motor runs smoothly, shutter functions. In other words, an altogether beautiful and technically perfect, very rare camera.
Don’t miss this unique opportunity to add a legendary and extremely scarce piece of camera history to your collection!
