Aluminum 200,000 Mark coin issued as Notgeld by the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg during the German hyperinflation of 1923. The obverse features the coat of arms of Hamburg, supported by two rampant lions and crowned, surrounded by the city's official motto, in a heraldic design of great sobriety and balance. The reverse shows the denomination of 200,000 Mark in the center, accompanied by the inscription Notgeld and the issue date, 1 August 1923, reflecting the vertiginous rise in face values characteristic of that period. The specimen retains an exceptional grade, with fully defined reliefs, satin surfaces and original luster practically intact, qualities fully in line with the MS66 grade awarded by NGC. These emergency issues constitute an important historical testament to the monetary crisis that affected Germany after World War I, when numerous cities and local authorities resorted to Notgeld to maintain monetary circulation during the hyperinflation.
