Description from the seller
GERMANY. Westphalia. 100 Mark. 1921.
- Value: 100 Mark.
- Year: 1921.
- Inscriptions: Obverse: FRH. WILH. V. FÜRST VON FÜRSTENBERG. Reverse: NOTGELD · PROVINCE WESTFALEN · 10 MARK · 1921.
- Grade: AU58 BN (NGC).
Copper coin issued as Notgeld by the Prussian province of Westphalia in 1921, within the series of emergency coins created to cope with the cash shortage in the early years of the Weimar Republic. The obverse features the portrait of Franz Wilhelm von Fürstenberg, a prominent reformer, educator, and statesman of Westphalia, shown in profile with a sober and elegant style, surrounded by his name in Gothic characters. The reverse shows the prancing horse, a traditional symbol of Westphalia, accompanied by the Notgeld legend, the province name, the face value of 10 Mark, and the issue date. The specimen retains an attractive original brown color, corresponding to the BN designation, with slight wear only at the highest relief points, preserving much of the original mint luster and excellent definition of the details, features fully consistent with the AU58 BN grade awarded by NGC. This issue is a representative testament to the monetary solutions adopted by German regional authorities before the outbreak of the great hyperinflation in 1923.
Disclaimer: For orders shipped outside the European Union, I want to leave absolutely clear that I do ship from Spain, which means that if the package is sent to any country outside the European Union, and/or inside EU that has special tax agreement (example: Canary Islands), it might be stopped in your local customs and they might ask you to pay taxes.
