Silver miniature model of a three-masted ship De Zeven Provinciën, mounted on a wooden base, produced in the Netherlands in the 1950s, solid 835/1000 silver weighing about 700 g with a width of 34.5 cm, not complete and without original packaging.
Description from the seller
Detailed silver miniature model of a three-masted ship (De Zeven Provinciën) with full rigging, double masts, bowsprit with staysails, and pennants. The model is mounted on a wooden base.
Solid silver, fineness 835/1000 (second fineness). Weight approximately 700 grams.
The piece bears several Dutch hallmarks: a lion in a hexagon (Dutch silver hallmark), a walking lion with Roman numeral II (fineness 835/1000, used from 1953), a master mark with the letter P and year letter P (c. 1950). Additionally, decorative fineness marks in the export-silver style have been applied — a well-known practice among Schoonhoven silversmiths.
Probably crafted by a Schoonhoven silversmith, mid-20th century. Schoonhoven has historically been the center of Dutch silverwork and is known for this type of highly detailed miniature ships.
Not complete/damaged: the rigging shows damage in several places and one mast is no longer securely attached. The piece is otherwise unrestored and in its original condition.
