Description from the seller
Cup with saucer
Type: Cup with saucer (Tasses et soucoupes)
Period: Late 19th – early 20th century (Eclectic/Floral style)
Materials: Glazed white porcelain, polychrome enamels and genuine gold
Dimensions: Standard coffee/tea cup size (practical measurements).
Fine coffee cup with its matching white porcelain saucer, finely enamelled. The decoration, of delicate floral taste and late historicist style, unfolds on a two-tone background where a conspicuous baby-pink lower band shaped with lobes contrasts with the white porcelain of the upper section. The surface is adorned with a refined continuous hand-painted garland with ivy tendrils and delicate sprigs of lily of the valley in light green and white tones, interspersed with small yellow-gold accents.
The profiles of the cup and the rim of the saucer are finished with a refined gilt thread-work crafted in dense geometric wolf-tooth motifs, visually echoing the gold on the edge of the saucer’s central flared rim. The handle of the cup, molded into opposing volutes of neo-Rococo character.
The base is smooth, free of visible marks impressed or painted, a characteristic typical of some export productions or minor manufactories active in the Limoges area or in the German/Bohemian region around the turn of the century.
