Description from the seller
Aubusson is the name of a city in the heart of France from which the Aubusson productions take their name. The production of these carpets began as early as the 14th century, thanks to Flemish masters who, emigrating to the area, taught the local artisans this art. Over the centuries, Aubusson tapestries enjoyed great success, reaching the principal royal castles throughout France and beyond. Today Aubusson production in France is greatly reduced, and most Aubusson carpets currently on the market are handwoven in China. There are two types of carpets called Aubusson: the original Aubusson and the Aubusson Needlepoint. In the first case, we are talking about carpets woven with the classic Aubusson technique; in Aubusson Needlepoint carpets, the half-stitch technique is used, which is faster to produce and therefore used on cheaper carpets. The motifs are similar in both variants, although Aubusson designs, unlike Aubusson Needlepoint, tend to be crisper and more detailed.
Aubusson rug in small point.
It joins two sections (central seam) with a wool-on-cotton embroidery.
The numerous images show the details better than words. I therefore invite you to look at them carefully to verify the condition of the item and avoid any misunderstanding. Thank you.
Decorated with bouquets surrounded by garlands of flowers on a beige background. Stunning three-dimensional floral border on an earth-toned background.
