Description from the seller

Votive stupa (Chaitya) with the four directional Buddhas (Tathagatas)
Nepal (Kathmandu Valley)
Bronze with brown patina and golden reflections.
Height: 13 cm x 8 x 8 cm

Architectural bronze miniature representing a votive stupa resting on a square base. The plinth is adorned with a relief frieze of devotees and flanked by four miniature stupas at the corners. A makara-shaped pourer/spout emerges on one side for ritual libations. In the center, on a double lotus base (padmapitha), the dome (anda) is carved with four niches housing the Buddhas of Wisdom (Akshobhya, Ratnasambhava, Amitabha and Amoghasiddhi) in their respective ritual gestures (mudras). The ensemble is crowned by a geometrized harmika and a conical spire with thirteen discs (chattravali) symbolizing the Buddhist heavens.

Condition: Good used condition, handling and devotional wear softening the reliefs, traces of ritual sediments in the hollows. Good condition for its age.

Provenance: Kanaka The Collection
