Description from the seller
Low Sideboard/Buffet in Walnut – Carlo X / Louis-Philippe Style
Elegant low sideboard for living room (or floor-standing cabinet) from an Italian manufacturing area, dated to the mid-19th century (full Carlo X / Louis-Philippe period). The piece is entirely veneered in premium walnut burl on the upper band and on the panels, a feature that gives a splendid natural flame figure and warm amber tones to the grain.
The design is characterized by sober yet imposing lines: the protruding upper band is supported at the sides by two refined consoles (shelves) carved with foliate motifs and volutes, typical of 19th-century cabinetmaking. The central body presents two swing doors embellished with a triple blind arch carved with geometric and stylized floral relief decorations. The interior offers a capacious compartment divided by a solid horizontal shelf. All rests on a full plinth base, linear and geometric.
Equipped with the original era-appropriate key and functioning lock. On the back and inside you can notice the classic signs of artisanal workmanship of the period, with a solid wood back divided into panels.
Conditions:
The piece presents general good conservation conditions, structurally solid and with the original patina of the era well preserved. Being an authentic object with about 150-170 years of history, it shows natural signs of time and use that attest to its authenticity:
Internal structure and rear: The back shows a natural wood crack due to seasonal shrinkage, which does not affect the stability or use of the cabinet.
Exterior surface: Small and normal signs of surface wear, light scratches and chipping. Noted a small antique defect/repair on the rear-right corner of the upper surface and a slight abrasion near the keyhole.
Hardware: Original and functioning lock, key included. The original internal hook for locking the left door is present.
Detailed photographs are an integral part of the lottery description.
Technical Details:
Era: Mid-19th Century (circa 1850)
Style: Carlo X / Louis-Philippe
Main material: Walnut wood and walnut burl
