Berger-Nesme, Lyon - Chalice - .835 silver

French liturgical chalice, attributed to Berger-Nesme, Lyon, late 19th to early 20th century, circa 1890–1924.

The chalice has a finely engraved 835 silver cup with floral and vine decoration. The stem, knop and foot are in gilded metal, decorated in a neo-Gothic / neo-Romanesque style, with small red cabochon stones around the knop. The foot is ornamented with engraved foliage and cross motifs.

The maker’s mark appears to be B and N with a chalice between, corresponding to Berger-Nesme, a known French ecclesiastical silversmith workshop from Lyon. The cup is marked 835 silver.
